Reading-Level Audit

Every published Library article's plain track is scored on a standard readability formula at publication and re-scored each time the article is revised. Does not score the practitioner track, which is not held to the grade-eight target.

Ongoing, and public-facing in effect: the reading grade shown in every article's provenance strip is this audit's output. See Research Note 14 for a related finding on what reading level does and does not change.

A readability formula measures sentence and word length, not comprehension. An article can score at grade eight and still be hard to follow if it is poorly organized, and this audit does not catch that — editorial review does.
