A public reference institution of the State of North Carolina's law

About

A reference institution, not a firm.

North Carolina Law publishes educational material about the law of this state. It does not represent clients, does not accept cases, and does not refer matters to lawyers for a fee.

Everything is free to read and requires no account. The Library is reviewed on a fixed schedule, the Journal is edited on a volume-and-number basis, and the Research programme publishes its methods alongside its results.

Editorial standard

Two-editor review, dated citations, published corrections. Articles carry the date they were last checked, not the date they were written.

The Blackstone Project

North Carolina Law’s research institute — a permanent division with its own charter, director, and advisory council, named for Sir William Blackstone, whose Commentaries on the Laws of England made the common law legible to a general reader. It is home to the six standing research programmes, the Innovation Lab, and the research-driven Annual Reports.

Educational, not political or commercial, and not a body with authority over this site’s editorial content. Its research is never conducted, reviewed, or published in a way that favors a North Carolina Law commercial offering, present or future.
