Disasters and emergencies; temporary certificates.

(a) When a state of emergency, as defined in G.S. 166A-19.3, has been declared by the Governor due to a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado, or flood, or due to a pending disaster, the Board may issue temporary standard or limited certificates to retired qualified Code-enforcement officials to conduct Code enforcement in the emergency area, as defined in G.S. 166A-19.3, for the duration of the state of emergency. (b) A temporary standard or limited certificate issued under this section shall expire at the termination of the state of emergency or 12 months, whichever is earlier. If after 12 months the state of emergency has not expired, the Board may renew the temporary standard or limited certificate. (c) A qualified Code-enforcement official who has been on inactive status and is issued a temporary standard or limited certificate under this section shall not be subject to the continuing education requirements established pursuant to G.S. 143-151.13A, unless the individual has been inactive or retired for over two years and not continuously employed by a city or county inspection department.
